Ghost Baby was an idea to create a modern speak-easy in a pre-prohibition beer cave located five stories below street level. The vision of Josh Heuser was to create his space with extravagant colors and styles to both recall the vibe of the roaring 20s while attracting the diversity of a new millennial crowd. The crazier the decor the better.
Josh partnered with Orange Chair to assist in both style and textile selection for this project. It was a journey that took us through a million inspiration images and dozens of textile samples. The space was divided into two unique ambiances: the speak-easy bar and the intimate stage area. We lined the bar with colored bar stools that were chose to be as loud and as random as possible. Meanwhile, the perimeter of the room featured full length built in banquettes with a neon lime green geometric textile that likely couldn’t work anywhere else but in that room.
To segue into the stage area, we were able to re-create an 1850s replica of the classic British Knole sofa (as seen in Downton Abbey), with pink velvet, gold braided tassels, down cushions at an impressive 25 feet long. It just seems to fit perfectly. Then as we move to the stage area, we created intimate “J-shaped” individual banquettes for small parties to sit and face the stage. At this point, the teal velvet seemed almost timid.
This project was an extraordinary feat of logistics and style. It was one of the most creative projects that Orange Chair had the privilege to participate in Ghost Baby was dutifully awarded Best Interior Design by The Cincinnati Design Awards!
